Somerset Australia Day Ambassadors

This year, Emi and Marie were proud to take part in Queensland Australia Day celebrations as two of the state’s forty-five Australia Day ambassadors. On Tuesday, 26 January, Emi and Marie represented the state at Somerset Civic Centre and took part in Somerset Regional Council’s Australia Day breakfast and award ceremony, as a part of Australia’s program, which encourages

Queenslanders to come together and celebrate in such an important national day. The Ambassador Program started in New South Wales in 1990 with only nine Ambassadors and is now delivered in every state and territory throughout Australia. Since its inception in Queensland in 2005, the program has sent over 250 Ambassadors to local Australia Day festivities statewide.

The program sends outstanding, accomplished and inspiring Queenslanders to local Australia Day events across the state, and the Bird’s Nest girls were honoured to be chosen to represent such an influential group of people at the Somerset event – the perfect way to celebrate everything that is great about being Australian.

Sake to Me Event

Here’s one for the sake lovers! For one night only, the team from Bird’s Nest Restaurant will play host to one of the country’s premiere sake experts Rey Takahashi when he shares his extensive knowledge with guests at Brisbane’s most exclusive sake tasting.

Drawing on his Japanese roots, Australian born Rey is the son of restaurateur turned business Saka Takahashi the brains behind the wildly successful Sakenet Australia. During his time abroad in China Rey studied a broad range of interests including Kung Fu and Capoeira, but it was his passion for sake that led him to pursue as a Kura-Bito (sake maker).

For six months he honed his skills and passion at Hiokizakura before returning to Australian shores to share his wealth of knowledge. Happily installed in the family business, Rey now travels around the country educating a lucky few on the spirit that has become his life’s work.

Join on March 3rd for an evening of fun and feasting as you work your way through 8 tantalising courses paired with matching sakes and plum wine.

For $49pp, put your palate to the test and indulge in delicacies like tender Hokkaido scallops wrapped in crisp bacon and crispy soft shell crab, and take the rare opportunity to learn from a true sake specialist.
