Yakitori lovers come forth. Bird’s Nest restaurant in West End has some of the best Japanese cuisine in Brisbane.
Bird’s Nest bar and restaurant, located on Melbourne St in West End, is a definite must try for any Japanese and chicken lovers- and they’re currently celebrating their first birthday!
This beautiful restaurant with Japanese designed interiors is warm, intimate and seats 50 people, making it a great banquet dining location. The restaurant distances itself from other generic Japanese cuisines, which usually include sushi and sashimi, and instead bring a unique and niche menu of chicken yakitori skewers.
Although skewers may sound as if the menu is limited, the meat and flavours are anything but. For those who haven’t tried yakitori before, or are not versed with Japanese cuisine, the chicken tenderloin with wasabi mayonnaise is delicious, tender, and my absolute favourite.
Chicken thigh with shallots, chicken thigh with lemon and chicken wings are also must try’s, and all consist of different flavours. What’s more is that these menu items are made fresh to order and you can see the chefs grilling away at the front bar, giving the restaurant a fragrant and smoky ambience.
The ‘standard’ chicken skewers end there though, with chicken tails, hearts, arteries and livers also being on the menu. Although the thought of eating offal may have some of you cowering in fear, they are actually pretty delicious, exceptionally cooked. The arteries in particular have a great smoky flavour.
At Bird’s Nest the dinners are pay-per-head, with a few different options available that will get you eating a variety of skewers, and delicious sticky rice. Drinks are definitely done well too with a huge selection of wines, Japanese beer, and of course, sake on offer.
Bird’s Nest is a must do, but it must be done right! Make sure you try everything on their banquet style menu, even if you are a little squeamish or unfamiliar with Japanese food.
Who knows, you may become a smoky, chicken artery lover!
